THINGS TO DO IN/AROUND CANMORE

Canmore is located in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains but this mountain paradise is only an hour and a half from Calgary International Airport by car or bus.

In addition to kite snowboarding, in the winter season you can go dog sledding, ice climbing, snowboarding, skiing and mountaineering within a stone’s throw of Canmore. ROCK CLIMBING

Canmore and Banff offer some of the best outdoor rock climbing in the world. Their location in the Canadian Rockies means there are long multi pitch routes offering challenges for all levels, as well as easy and fun beginner crags and climbing areas to be enjoyed. The popularity and demand that this fantastic location has built means there are also many indoor climbing gyms, allowing the sport to be enjoyed and practiced all year round.

When can I climb in Canmore and Banff?

Depending on temperatures and elevation the season for rock climbing in Canmore and the Canadian Rockies is from around May to the end of September. Crags around Canmore, Banff and Kananaskis can more often than not be climbed into October. Routes at higher elevations are typically out of season by mid-September.

Will I enjoy rock climbing? Do I need experience?

The sport of rock climbing can be enjoyed by people of all physical capabilities and ages without feeling like they need to be Spiderman. As with all technical sports, proper technique is critical to taking you to the next level. More advanced rock climbing on steep multi pitch routes does require a much greater level of skill, strength and stamina, which is usually attained during years of training and experience.

Horse Back Riding

Cave Tours

Canmore is the hub for skiing and snowboarding in the Candian Rockies with 4 world-class ski resorts within a short drive. If you are planning a skiing or snowboarding vacation in Western Canada, you’ will surely want to check out some of the champagne powder snow at Banff’s Sunshine Village, Mount Norquay, Lake Louise or Nakiska.

The season starts around mid-November, and runs all the way through till mid-May.
